Jem McDowall has been appointed to vice president of tea trading at Universal Commodities (Tea) Trading, Inc. (UCTT). McDowall
brings to the company 15 years of experience in the tea industry worldwide.After joining Lipton Tea Services, U.K. in 1984, he spent two years in Sri Lanka with Lipton Ceylon.He
then moved to the U.K. in a buying capacity for one year before relocating to Malawi, where he
managed the Lipton Tea (Malawi) buying and trading business for four years.In 1993, he
returned to the U.K. to manage Unilever Market Development International's
tea product development function, encompassing markets as diverse as Poland, Uzbekistan, Syira, Ukraine, and Morocco.Most recently he held the position of managing director, Haines & Co. (London) Ltd., the marketing agent for Brooke Bond East Africa teas in the U.K. and Europe.
As vice president, trading, McDowall
will be responsible for overseeing the development and expansion of UCTT's supplier base primarily in the areas of Ceylon, India, and Africa.He
will also be responsible for international sales as well as assisting the trading team in servicing all existing clients and suppliers.
