Senators battle subsidies they say will harm cement plants

Jeff Sieg, a spokesman for Lehigh, said this week the Glens Falls plant employs 93 and is believed to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, still-running cement plants in the country.
"It's been operating since 1893, so that plant's been there quite a while," Sieg said. Lehigh will be watching the call for an investigation closely, though the company did not request the move, Sieg said. "We certainly appreciate the senators' actions," he said. Sieg, with Lehigh Hanson, said the Glens Falls facility's long-term success is limited only by demand for its product. "As long as we can have customers that are demanding our products, we'll keep producing cement out of that plant," he said.

In the report, Jeff Sieg, a spokesman for Hanson, says that nothing unusual was reported during 2014 blasting operations, but Peterson says that residents' feedback varied during that time period, noting that some days there were no calls and other days there were one to three calls.
