Paige, 5, Ellie, 4 and Mike, 2, had a little help from their dad, Jeff Parker, who planned to offer Mindy, his bride of seven years, two options."I'll either cook or buy dinner for Mother's Day," Parker said, laughing."She'll probably prefer I buy."A year from now, the Parkers plan to celebrate Mother's Day in Colorado, their new home.Jeff Parker, formerly the Diamond Jaxx's general manager, is leaving his first love to better provide for his loved ones.At 38, he is walking away from baseball after 23 years, moving to Colorado Springs and becoming a fast-food franchise owner with Five Guys Burgers and Fries. It is a bold step for a man who has made baseball his life since childhood. He first got paid for his passion at age 15 as the California Angels' bat boy.But he knew the time had come to establish a better future for his family. He turned down an offer from the new owners of the Jaxx to remain with the franchise as general manager. When the Jaxx sale was finalized on Friday, Parker said his good-byes at Pringles Park, cleaned out his office and spent the evening with family."It was kind of bittersweet," Parker said.Parker owned a small percentage in the Jaxx franchise, thanks to his friendship with owner Bob Lozinak.Parker was the Angels' director ofplayer development until the end of the 1999 season, when he went to work for Lozinak as general manager of the minor league baseball team in Altoona, Pa. Lozinak bought the Diamond Jaxx after the 2002 season, and Parker moved to Jackson with Mindy."The Lozinaks are a great family to work for," Parker said."It's a family-run business with an emphasis on food quality and extreme attention to detail," Parker said."They don't have a freezer in any of their locations. All ingredients are fresh, and they make the best burgers and fries in town."The Parkers plan to move in June."We'll be a time zone closer to our (California) roots," Parker said.
