Jeff Hyslop, Founding Artistic Director Jeff Hyslop,Jeff provides us with his expertise, contacts and energy to ensure that Showcase Festival is built on a solid artistic foundation.As Founding Artistic Director, he was responsible for planning our 3 seasons, in addition to conceiving the "Ginger" Goodwin project.Vancouver born Jeff Hyslop is indisputably one of Canada's foremost performing artists.Equally masterful as a singer, dancer, and actor, he has starred with unqualified success in such landmark musical productions as "Cabaret", "Kiss of the Spider Woman", "Jacques Brel", "The Producers" and of course, the role of "Mike" in both the London West End and Broadway productions of "A Chorus Line".To many, he is the quintessential Phantom of the Opera, a role he embraced in the Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical for over 900 performances.He starred as "Jeff the Mannequin" in the TVO series "Today's Special" which maintained a huge popularity for over 10 years.At age 21 Jeff was dancing and singing in Norman Jewison's film "Jesus Christ Superstar".Choreography and directing are a real love for Jeff and it shows in productions such as "Peter Pan", "A Chorus Line", "On Tap", "Guys and Dolls" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat".Continually broadening his career, Jeff is in demand for his teaching expertise in the realm of Musical Theatre, encompassing adjudication and scene, song and dance workshops.They have performed at Massey Hall, the Hummingbird Centre, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts, featuring an all-Canadian guest list which has included such artists as Jeff Hyslop, Louise Pitre, Guido Basso, The Men of the Deeps, The Three Cantorial Tenors.
Jeff Hyslop, who has played the masked lead role in The Phantom of the Opera for more than 900 performances, will be adjudicating this year's festival, which will see community theatre groups from around the Okanagan stage plays. The winner of the festival will go on to the B.C. Mainstage event, to be held in Kamloops in July. Born in Vancouver, Hyslop is indisputably one of Canada's foremost performing artists. Hyslop has received numerous awards including three Jessie's - two for Best Choreography the other for Best Director - five nominations for the ACTRA Award for Best Variety Performer, and a Dora Mavor Moore Award in 1984 for On Tap. He recently served as artistic director for the Showcase Festival, The Dream On Royal Street and Kiss Me, Kate.
ARTISTIC DIRECTOR Jeff Hyslop is busy preparing the young cast.They're going to be able to relate (to the characters)," said artistic director Jeff Hyslop. Showcase Festival can be called world-class" because of the outstanding experience of its members.Hyslop is a founding member of Showcase Festival as well as its artistic director.He moved to Campbell River two years ago accompanied by a stellar career in Canadian performing arts.He's most famous as the Phantom in the Canadian tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Phantom of the Opera, which he performed over 900 times. As a singer, dancer and actor, he has starred on Broadway and in film, such as Norman Jewison's Jesus Christ Superstar.Hyslop moved to Campbell River for a change of pace and within months he was part of the blossoming Showcase Festival society which formed a year and a half ago.I think it's important for people to watch something that doesn't make them want to get up and go to the fridge," Hyslop said on Monday.
