"Our employees have embraced the fact that they need to think about every task to ensure they've identified anything that could go wrong and hurt someone," said Jeff Fraley, general manager at E.W. Brown/Tyrone.

HLCL Holds Annual Town Meeting

Specialguests at the annual Herrington Lake Conservation League Town Meeting included State Representative Lonnie Napier; Garrard County Judge-Executive John Wilson; Kentucky Utilities E.W. Brown General Manager Jeff Fraley.
Mr. Fraley encouraged everyone who has not joined the league to do so stating "It is unbelievable what this group has accomplished. Fraley went on to describe how KU maintains the water levels in the lake. Normal winter pool is 725 feet above sea level. Starting on March 15, KU allows the water to rise, rain permitting, to 740 feet. Then from October 1 to November 15 they slowly pull the water level back down to 725 feet. These levels were set in agreement with the state after a University of Kentucky study of the contributions of Herrington Lake to the floods of 1978. Fraley went on to state that KU does not use the turbines to generate power unless they are lowering the lake level. Mr. Fraley also assured the audience that they do inspect and maintain the dam.

Dix Dam Manager Jeff Fraley said in a conference call on Thursday that the lake level is not a concern at this time, but that a managed, controlled release of water behind the dam might be necessary next week.
