MARIETTA - Jeff Filkovski has resigned as the head football coach of Marietta College, Director of Athletics Larry Hiser announced Wednesday.
Filkovski spent five years as the head man for the Pioneers, leading his teams to an overall record of 10-40 during his tenure.
"I appreciate the opportunity to have been the football coach at Marietta College the past five years," Filkovski said. "There was some good, as well as some bad. I cared about the program, the college and most of all those players."
Filkovski's coaching career at Marietta did include several highlights, including leading the Pios to an upset of No. 7-ranked Otterbein, 25-22, on a last second touchdown pass in 2009.
Coach 'Ski, as many call him, also saw 18 of his players selected to All-OAC teams over the past five seasons. Filkovski was well-respected by his players and developed good relationships with many of them, including Adam Tate and Dan Starr, who were each assistant coaches for Marietta this fall.
"Marietta College would like to thank Coach Filkovski for his dedication to Pioneer football over the past five years," Hiser said.
Filkovski said his overall time at Marietta College was enjoyable.
"Through the years, all the way back to that first team, I got to coach a lot of good players," Filkovski said.

Jeff Filkovski didn't waste any time seeing if he was head-coach material after being named the 2007 Ohio Athletic Conference CO-assistant coach of the year.
Filkovski was named Marietta's head football coach recently the school announced.
Filkovski worked under former Mount Union All-American Mike Hallett as Heidelberg's offensive coordinator last season. The Student Princes posted their best season since 1999 with a 4-6 (3-6 OAC) mark and Heidelberg's offense ranked within conference leaders in nine different categories including by points scored (25.1), passing efficiency (138.7) and red-zone offense (32-of-41 conversions).
Prior to joining Heidelberg, Filkovski was the offensive coordinator overseas for the Cologne Centurions of NFL Europe.Under his direction, the Centurions boasted the league's second-best offense and finished 6-4 in 2006.
His other coaching stints include Holy Cross, Thomas More College and the University of Cincinnati where he served in several different capacities from 1992-98.
"We are excited to have Jeff as our new head football coach.
Ironically, Marietta's road to the national title began in Alliance on Nov. 17, 1990 when Filkovski and the Gators defeated the Purple Raiders, 26-15, in one of the most memorable games ever played at Mount Union Stadium.
Both teams entered the contest undefeated and Filkovski threw a touchdown pass in the Gators' win that will be remembered as "the game of inches" for Mount Union.
Filkovski went on to win Football Gazette's Division III offensive player of the year award and was named to the Associated Press Little All-American team. But his memory remains burned with the images from that thrilling game at Mount Union.
Filkovski becomes the third former player and fourth individual overall who was involved in that historic playoff clash to become a head coach in the OAC.
