feels that creating a safe environment that fosters acceptance, validation, ownership, responsibility, accomplishment and pride will allow students to become comfortable and learn.She's

is extremely enthusiastic about being in alternative education. Synova Shelgren is the Coordinator of the River Bend ALC in New Ulm. (SW Region) She's been in alternative education eight years: two years teaching at Worthington ALC and five years as director of the Southwest ALC before moving to River Bend.She has been the secretary/treasurer of her region for three years and currently serves on the Alternative Education Continuous Improvement Board for CFL.
Synova is enthusiastic about the success of alternative programs, particularly when former students return to share their life stories.This allows educators to feel pride in their jobs on a daily basis and tackle the challenges of pregnancy, abuse, chemical use and poor attendance that alternative staff face each day.She
is a proven, innovative leader.
