Jean C. Karlen
Professor of Sociology Jean C. Karlen is a native Nebraskan who earned bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. At Wayne State College since 1976, Karlen has been active in community development and women's issues throughout her career and is president of the Nebraska Women's Foundation. In 2000, she received the board of directors' distinguished service award from the Midwest Sociological Society and in 2003 was recognized as the outstanding professor of the year for the Nebraska State College System. In 2006, Karlen received the Voyager Award from the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education.

Crews was born and raised in a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, but has lived in the Midwest (Kansas and Nebraska) for more than 20 years.Jean C. Karlen Professor of Sociology, Wayne State College Jean C. Karlen is a native Nebraskan who earned B.A., M.A. and Ph.D degrees at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.She has been at Wayne State College since 1976.Karlen has been active in community development and women's issues throughout her career.She is president of the Nebraska Women's Foundation, a member of the Nebraska in Higher Education Leadership Network and is on the American Association of University Women state board.She is active in the Northeast Nebraska Development Network, is the service learning coordinator for WSC, and has been a member of the Midwest Sociological Society Board since 1989.She was recently installed as the new national president of the board for Pi Gamma Mu, a social sciences honorary with chapters on 150 colleges campuses.
