Jay Hall Jay Hall, PhD, is the President of Jay Hall and Associates, Inc., an independent consulting firm that is committed to facilitating the transformation of the building industry and communities to sustainable practices. Dr. Hall works with a network of green building experts and business alliances.
In 2004, Dr. Hall was contracted by the U.S. Green Building Council to lead the development of the LEED for Homes program (including single family and multi-family buildings). From 2007-2009, he was the Acting Director of the national LEED for Homes program. Currently, Dr. Hall's company continues to provide certification review services to USGBC for certified LEED for Homes projects in the U.S. and internationally.
Dr. Hall also worked as a consultant to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Indoor Environment Division from 1994-2000. He developed detailed guidance to building owners and managers on how to better control indoor environmental quality and minimize operational problems. In a more recent proprietary project, Dr. Hall developed detailed guidance on over three dozen toxic man-made chemicals that are commonly used in buildings, and identified more friendly alternatives.
Dr. Hall started his career working on the U.S. EPA's ENERGY STAR market transformation programs. For 15 years, he was actively involved in the development of the ENERGY STAR brand, and has a practical in-depth understanding of both the development and implementation of voluntary sustainability programs. For 10 years, he led ICF Consulting's team for ENERGY STAR for Homes - the nation's most successful program, with over one million homes labeled.
Dr. Hall earned his Undergraduate and Master's engineering degrees in Canada, and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Duke University in North Carolina. He also holds several professional credentials including: USGBC LEED® Faculty™, LEED® AP Homes, LEED for Homes Green Rater, National Green Builidng Standard Green Verifier, and RESNET Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Rater. Dr. Hall is a active speaker at national conferences and has presented hundreds of green building workshops nationally.
