Driven by his love of the outdoors instilled by his father, Jason Luker has been a professional in the whitewater industry for almost two decades. With a passion for the outdoors, taking to the rivers comes as second nature. Jason has a vast range of skills and experience including:
...
At a very young age, Jason knew that nature was his teacher and the outdoors was his classroom. Upon graduation from high school, Jason decided to give traditional college a try. Within months, he discovered that he was seeking more from his educational experience and left college to attend an Outward Bound course. Immediately, Jason realized that he had found his true calling in life. After completing the course with Outward Bound, he went back to college to pursue his degree in Outdoor Recreation and Education. He wanted to learn how to give back to others what he had been given in the outdoors.
Throughout college, Jason spent every waking moment that he was not in class either skiing, climbing mountains, or on the river. He has summitted great peaks around the world such as Denali, Alaska and Cotopoxi, Equador. He has also run some amazing rivers such as The Colorado through the Grand Canyon. There is truly not much that this man has not done when it comes to outdoor recreation. After completing his Bachelors in Outdoor Education, Jason went on to earn his Masters in Adult Education. With that degree he became the Director of the Outdoor Education program at North Idaho College. This job afforded him the opportunity to share outdoor experience with students at the college. Obtaining many national certifications and achievements during this time, Jason quickly became one of the leaders in the outdoor industry.
However, Jason will not stand still for very long. As time went on in his job at NIC, Jason once again was seeking more challenge in his life. The risk taker that he is, he gave up his job at NIC and moved his entire life to the Skykomish Valley where he decided to try his hand at business ownership and became partners of Wave Trek, Inc. It also put him closer to his true passion, skiing. Jason is currently a ski patroller at Stevens Pass in the winter when the rafting and kayaking season is at a lull. He joined the Wet Planet Team last summer and has had customers requesting him as their guide time and time again. Jason's gentle and playful nature rubs off on you and always leaves his guests and students with fantastic memories!

Jason Luker, the museum's program coordinator, will help guide the informal discussion. The program will focus on slavery's profound effect on the development of the United States, as well as how the legacy of the "peculiar institution" has changed since the early 19th century. Modern understandings and debates on equality, personal rights and government authority were all shaped within the shadow of slavery, Luker said. Admission is free, but visitors must RSVP by Monday, Feb. 3 to be guaranteed a seat. It's possible the discussion will run beyond the allotted one-hour time frame. While Luker is white, Richardson and Biggers are black.
