Jan Suverkrop
Jan Suverkrop, Opera Coach BM (piano performance and music education) U of Cincinnati and MM (conducting) Butler U. She has taken advanced studies in conducting at AIMS in Graz, where she was the recipient of a Gramma Fischer Stipend. Ms. Suverkrop is the winner of over 30 solo piano competitions including the American Musical Scholarship Association. She spent 10 years as an assistant conductor in European opera houses and as an opera coach at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany. She was the musical director of the Int'l Youth Festival and the Wagner Seminar in Bayreuth, Germany. She has been heard as a pianist and harpsichordist with symphony orchestras throughout Germany in over 1000 performances; including performances of Saint-Saens' Le Carnaval des Animaux, Mendelssohn's Concerto in G Minor and Grieg's Concerto in A Minor. She has been on the faculty of Shenandoah U, Butler U, Bay View Music Festival, and director of the Los Angeles Piano Academy and the School for the Creative and Performing Arts, Cincinnati.

This year's panel of judges included former Scioto County resident Janice Cooley Suverkrop and Professor Bard Suverkrop.
A former Miss Portsmouth and Miss Ohio, Janice represented the state in the national Miss America competition where she was the grand talent winner. She has taken advanced studies in Graz, Austria and was the recipient of the Gramma Fischer scholarship. Janice is the winner of over thirty solo piano competitions, including the American Musical Scholarship Association. She has spent ten years as assistant conductor in European opera houses and was leading opera coach at Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Düsseldorf, Germany, which has the largest performing repertoire in the world. Janice was also the musical director of the International Youth Festival and the Wagner Seminar in Bayreuth, Germany. She has been heard as a pianist with symphony orchestras throughout Germany. A performing educator, Janice is on the artist faculty of the Bay View Music Festival.
