Dr. Janice M. Dieber
(901) 378-7305 HOPE for Women in Controlling Relationships is a support group that is dedicated to supporting women who are, or who have been, in any type of controlling relationship (marriage, partnership, dating, family of origin, etc.). This may include, but certainly is not limited to, supporting the transition out of a controlling relationship which has progressed to one that has become physically violent. Meeting every Tuesday evening, from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, it is an open group in that participants need not attend every week although most benefit greatly from doing so. There is no start and stop dates and the group does not take a summer break. Occasionally group may not meet and, for this reason, participants are encouraged to join the group and provide an e-mail address where they can be notified of the weekly topic and of any scheduling changes. (Contact the Facilitator, Dr. Jan Dieber, for the room number.) The group facilitator is Dr. Janice M. Dieber. A resident of Collierville since 2005, Jan is originally from the Chicago area where she was a University Professor and an Associate College Dean. She has a Master's degree in Adult Education and a Doctorate in Medical Education. Author of several textbooks and articles, Jan is a Life Transition Coach who spends her volunteer time as the group's facilitator, a Victim's Advocate with the Collierville Police Department, a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and CASA trainer, and working with women inmates in the Pre-Release Program at Mark Luttrell Correctional Facility. Jan's specialty is in the areas of Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). In April, 2004 Jan was given an award by UCASA in Salt Lake City, UT for her "Lifetime Contribution to the Anti-Sexual Violence Movement". For inquiries about the group, Jan can be reached through voicemail at Hope (755-7721 ext.1944) or by e-mail (jdieber@gmail.com).
