Casteel Appointed Assistant City Manager
City Manager Joe Cate announced today that he
has appointed long time city employee Janice Casteel
as Assistant City Manager.Casteel
will start her
duties in the new position January 1, 2007.The City Council recently approved upgrading the position of Assistant to the City Manager to Assistant City Manager.As Assistant City Manager, Casteel will assume the City Manager's duties during the absence of the City Manager.
has worked for the city since 1973.She has served as City Clerk/Finance Director for the City since 1981.Prior to becoming City Clerk she served as Deputy Clerk, Junior Accountant and Senior Accountant.She also served as Interim City Manager between September, 1993 to March 1994, during the transition of the city from a Commission form of government to the Council/ Manager form of government.She
served again as Interim City
Manager September 2000 to March 2001, the period between when Cleveland's first City Manager George Wood resigned and Joe Cate was appointed City Manager.She holds a degree in Business Administration from Cleveland State Community College and a B.S. degree in Business Administration - Accounting from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

According to Cate, when the council first discussed the possibility of upgrading the position he
first thought of Janice
for the job and he
was very pleased when he
was interested in applying for the job.Cate said that "Janice is a very hard worker, first and foremost a professional, a loyal and dedicated city employee who works well with the public and the Mayor and City Council."
...As Assistant City Manager Casteel in addition to assisting the City Manager she will be responsible for budget oversight and management of special projects and will be responsible for communication programs to keep media, the general public, city employees, and the city council informed.
