The heralded home of Bert Keck, built in 1908, is now owned by Dave and Jan Aamoth.
Recently, I met with Jan, who was gracious enough to let me see their beautiful home. Upon moving into the house, Jan and Dave were fortunate enough to receive old records, which included the 1912 description of the house from "Western Architect" magazine, a 1996 letter from Dr. Martha Larsen, who grew up in the home, a 1985 letter about the house from William Larsen, and copies of additional articles about Bert Keck. Following the long occupancy of the home at 716 North Broadway by the Larsen family, there were two other owners before Dave and Jan Aamoth moved into the home in 1995 and raised their three daughters there. As with most historic homes, necessary changes have occurred. The Aamoths remodeled the very outdated kitchen and added a large family room to the rear of it. Remaining in the home are the lovely deep windowsills, original woodwork, columns, and floors, the fireplace, the tile in the vestibule, and some of the original wallpaper. They have dispensed with the dining room fountain! Dave and Jan are rightfully proud of this distinctive home. It is treasured by their three daughters, as well. Jan, a retired social worker, and Dave, who works at Edward Jones, also enjoy helping care for their granddaughter, Kenzie, age 11. Thanks to Dave and Jan Aamoth for their interest in sharing the history of this wonderful home.
