Session 9 was taken by Jamie Horsley, Deputy Director, The China Law Centre and Senior Research Scholar and Lecturer in Law, Yale Law School.
The subject for this session was 'Three Decades of Reform in China - The Rule of Law and Governance Challenges'.
Talking about the openness in the government structure in China in terms of making information available to the people at large, Jamie Horsley
mentioned that for a very long period of time information sharing in China was severely restricted.
Even today, one would find it very difficult to get information out of different agencies of the government.
Citing the case of bird flu that hit China some time back, she
said that facts relating to this development were not brought out till the time Ministry of Health gave its consent for the same.
, however, added that things are changing slowly in China and people are now increasingly expecting the government to share / publish information on important issues on its own.
