Jim Snowden, executive vice president of Huntleigh Securities Co. in Clayton, noted in July that as the economy slowly picks up, companies are beginning to replenish inventories they reduced last year.
That will likely continue, he said, and send more cash out the door.

"The maximum amounts of debt that can be borrowed for transactions are lower, and the restrictive covenants are tougher (than before the recession), but at least the banks are resuming this kind of lending," said Jim Snowden, executive vice president of Huntleigh Securities Co. in Clayton.

Jim Snowden, executive vice president of St. Louis-based Huntleigh Securities, said strong cash balances are by-products of the slow economy as many firms cut capital expenditures and operate in cost-containment mode.
"When business slows down, companies generate an enormous amount of cash," he said.

"A financially strong company will always maintain more than sufficient amounts of cash and cash equivalents to meet its short-term financing needs, in good times and in bad," said Jim Snowden, executive vice president of Huntleigh Securities.
