James A. Shipman
ALTAMONT - James A. "Jim" Shipman, 67, of Altamont died at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at his
had been in failing health for a year.He
was born Nov. 5, 1934, in rural Edna to John B. and Helen (Estes) Shipman
.He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Labette County Community High School in Altamont in 1953.From 1953 to 1956, he worked for Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita.In 1956, he returned to the family farm near Edna and was employed with Funk Manufacturing in Coffeyville until 1970.He had been a farmer and dairyman since 1970.He was a member of the Central Christian Center in Joplin, Mo.He
was one of the original board members of the Big Hill Water District
No. 4 with 22 years of service.He was also a board member of Water District No. 8.He
married Janice N. Filson on June 26, 1955, at the Bartlett United Methodist Church
survives of the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Mike Shipman, and his
wife, Becky, of Columbus, Ga., and Rick Shipman of Peck; one daughter, Sandra Kaspar, and her
husband, Wes, of rural Altamont; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and one brother, Ralph Shipman of Tallahassee, Fla.He
was preceded in death by two sisters, Irma Patterson and Nancy Jackson.
The service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with the Rev. Bruce Lester officiating.Burial will be in the Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett
