Again the parish rallied and with assistance of a generous loan from the Knights of Columbus they were able to celebrate the retirement of then pastor Fr. James Noto by burning the mortgage.
They had taken a debt of over $680,000 to zero in five years.
It was this kind of "can-do" spirit that Monsignor Raymond Barton inherited when he became pastor of St. Nicholas in June 1999.
