James Mullen , vice president of Thermal Ventures , said the company could provide heating and cooling temporarily by installing boilers and chillers on the Vancouvercenter site while it awaits approval for the permanent plant.
We've done it in a lot of major cities , Mullen said.We did it for six months in Pittsburgh for the museum when we were building a line extension..
Thermal Ventures manages heating and cooling for more than 450 buildings in the United States , including the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh , Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond , Va. , and several facilities in Youngstown and Akron , Ohio.
But Mullen said the city also wanted to see plans that include other buildings Thermal Ventures is hoping to serve , including Smith Tower , the new West Coast Bank building , the M.J. Murdock Executive Plaza , the Bank of America Financial Center , the Riverview Bank Tower and the county jail.
Once that information is complete , the city would schedule a pre-application conference.Even then , final approval still could be months away , and the project also requires various other state and city permits.
I would probably describe it as being in a kind of unpredictable zone , said Othman.I'm not sure it can fit our schedule..

Dr. James A. Mullen, Life Fellow, IEEE
The Japanese attack on the Pearl Harbor naval base and other installations on Dec. 7, 1941 was a tremendously important event. It not only was the opening of the Pacific part of WWII, and a serious defeat for the United States, it was the immediate cause of the US declarations of war, and the source of deep and enduring lessons on national security issues. All of this is well known through the tremendous flood of publications and reminiscences that has continued through the past 60 years.Yet among all the narratives of air, sea, and land actions and deeds of valor and heroism, it is easy to lose sight of technical events, occasionally glimpsed in the midst of battle, not always accurately. It is the purpose of this talk to focus on C3I aspects of the battle and its preliminaries, and on lessons learned.
Dr. James A. Mullen grew up in Brockton and Milton and graduated from Providence College in 1950.After serving two years in the Army in Korea during the occupation, he attended Harvard University and received the Ph.D degree in Applied Physics in 1955.He then joined Raytheon where he worked on a variety of system analysis and random processing problems, including noise reduction in CW radar for the Hawk system, signal processing in Doppler navigation radar for the B-58 and space application, Project Barnstable study on Army communications, adaptive acoustic communication to submarines, detection processing in OTH-FS radar and for the Safeguard ABM system, ECCM for ground communications in the Patriot missile system, eliminating extraneous reflections in seismic prospecting for North Sea oil, assisting in an NRC review of the ELF Sanguine system, system architecture for Army command and control and many others. He retired from Raytheon after 37 years of service. He is a Life Fellow of the IEEE.
The meeting will be held at the Lincoln Lab Auditorium at 4:00 PM.You do not have to be an IEEE Life Member to attend this lecture.Refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM.Registration is in the main lobby.
