James Moriarty: "My background is in fine arts with a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
I have taken that perspective and applied it toward the development of a full service media company. As a small business owner, I know that it's impossible to succeed without collaboration, and that's what Indy BANG! is all about. I wanted to create a FREE party that was entirely collaborative, with everybody providing their talents and energies freely. The aim was to create a fun, festive networking environment for business and arts professionals to meet and open a working dialogue for applying creative solutions to their business counterparts and business solutions to their creative counterparts; to use tools like video walls and complex staging to show their application for the business world; and to introduce artists to business people who could support them in their arts businesses." James and his wife, Ingrid, wanted to re-create the kind of open parties they remembered hosting in Chicago with creative types scenically designing the party environment and emerging bands, theatre, and dance troupes providing the entertainment. James Moriarty: "Everybody brought food and booze, and you never knew whom you were going to run into. James Moriarty: "We also started to get requests from people who wanted to provide door prizes and help sponsor the party as a means of advertising their business to party participants." During 2007, James Moriarty met with Bryan Fonseca and Sharon Gamble of The Phoenix Theatre to consult about new directions for Indy BANG! and to garner support for an arts and small business nonprofit organization whose online presence would deliver content of talks about the benefits of promoting good relationships between small business and arts in the community.
