watched the West Lafayette girls soccer program from the opposing bench as a Harrison assistant last season.
Before that, he
coached several current Red Devils in youth soccer with the Tippecanoe Soccer Association
Last week, West Lafayette hired him as the program's third head coach in three years.Hunter
is expected to be approved at the June 6 school corporation board meeting.
"It's been a pretty good program the last couple of years, and they've been consistent in winning the conference year in and year out," Hunter
"They had an excellent run last year in the state tournament.As a coach, that's a good situation.Just having that familiarity with the girls and the program makes it a really good fit."Hunter
succeeds Charlie Babbs, who retired in March.
"This team was a goal away from going to the state finals," Hunter
said of last season, "so we'll just try to build upon that success and see where that will take us."Originally from Somerset, N.J., Hunter moved to the area to study at Purdue, where he received a Ph. D. in Environmental Engineering.He works as a post-doctoral researcher in agriculture and biomedical engineering at Purdue.Hunter
