SPOKANE VALLEY, WA- On Tuesday, November 19 Mayor Towey presented an honorary Key to the City to Dr. James Harken in recognition of his positive impact on the community.
ach month, one individual or organization receives Spokane Valley’s Community Recognition Award as a part of the City’s Ten Year Anniversary. Dr. Harken was nominated for the award because of his role as a tremendous advocate and champion of visual art in Spokane Valley. s a member of the Spokane Valley Arts Council his leadership helped the City to obtain two monumental bronze sculptures for the enjoyment of citizens and visitors.Harken was also recognized for his passion and love of the arts through which he has increased the community’s awareness of the value and benefits of public art.
