This committee consisted of Norman Lewis, Otto Mattei, James Godfrey, Gray Godfrey, Betty Pease, Libby Blackerby, Joyce Livingston, Mary Evelyn Banks and Margie Weslowski.

Forty?nine student members were selected by audition and the Bowling Green/Warren County Youth Orchestra held its first rehearsal on April 12, 1975, with James H. Godfrey as its conductor.Later the orchestra's name was changed to Barren River Area Youth Orchestra to allow representation from a wider area.
James Godfrey, a graduate of Oberlin Conservatory of Music, moved to Bowling Green in 1958 to accept a position on the music faculty at Western Kentucky University.During his career as youth orchestra director he also was active in the community as well as throughout the state adjudicating music festivals, consulting, and leading music workshops.He was president and Southern Chairman of the National School Orchestra Association and served as editor of the "Soundpost Column" in that organization's national publication.Later he continued to serve on the national board of directors for NSOA.
James H. Godfrey's widow, Gray Godfrey, has donated Mr. Godfrey's youth orchestra library to the present Bowling Green Youth Orchestra and has expressed support for this organization's commitment to carry on the work that was started by her husband twenty-eight years ago.
