GOSHEN -
After seventeen years of leading the hospital and health system in Goshen, Indiana University Health Goshen Chief Executive Officer and President James O. Dague has announced plans to retire.
In its annual strategic planning retreat, the board expressed appreciation both for Dague's accomplishments and his steady leadership over the past 17 years.
"Health System CEOs typically remain for less than five years. Goshen has been fortunate to have the steady leadership and outstanding talent of Jim Dague for over 16 years," said board chairman Mike Kubacki, "We greatly appreciate his willingness to work with the board to ensure a smooth and positive transition.
...
While not naming a specific departure date, Dague noted that he wanted to give the board plenty of time to find a successor. "While considering retirement, I wanted to give the board adequate time to make a smooth leadership transition."
According to the hospital, during Dague's tenure, the patient satisfaction scores led to the hospital receiving seven national awards and employee satisfaction scores were recognized as being among the highest in the country. In addition, more than 100 new physicians were recruited to the community for a range of services.
During Dague's leadership, the health system responded to community needs by starting a cancer center, a center to provide specialized health services to women in the region, and a center for cardiology. According to the hospital, both Indiana University Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care and The Retreat Women's Health Center have been recognized nationally for quality, with the cancer center earning a Summit Award in 2010 and The Retreat having earned five consecutive Summit Awards from Press Ganey for providing outstanding innovative care to patients.
"It has been a privilege to serve with this board and management team," Dague said.
...
Dague has continually updated the strategic planning documents which cover all areas and functions within the system.
...
"Since Mr. Dague has assured us that he will remain as long as needed, we are fortunate to have time to conduct a careful process."
