is responsible for all strategic planning, management, and operations of this 907-bed tertiary, teaching institution and it subsidiaries. Prior to joining the Hospital Center, Caldas served as executive vice president and chief operating officer at Christiana Care Health System in Wilmington, Delaware where he was accountable for the day-to-day operations of a multi-campus health system.
The system includes the Christiana Hospital
, a 780-bed tertiary care center with a level I trauma center, the Wilmington Hospital
, and several subsidiaries.Caldas joined the Christiana Care executive management team in 1987.Born in New York, Caldas obtained a Bachelor of Science in business administration from St. Joseph's College in Philadelphia and dual master's degrees in business administration and public health from the Graduate Schools of Business and Public Health at Columbia University in New York. Caldas is a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and a member of the Regents Advisory Council for Delaware.Caldas is an honorary member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Delaware, and a member of the boards of directors of Goodwill of Greater Washington and the American Heart Association.In addition, he has served as chairman of the board of directors for the Gift of Life Program.He
has received the Delaware Healthcare Administrative Achievement Award from the ACHE Regents Advisory Council for Delaware
