Alender, will join its executive leadership team as Chief Operating Officer. The Kokomo native has more than 20 years of experience as a commercial bank executive and spent the last 18 years as a hospital administrator.

Alender is no stranger to Salin Bank as he is currently a member of the Salin Bank Board of Directors and will continue in that capacity. In his new role as Chief Operating Officer for Salin Bank, Alender will concentrate his strategic efforts on finance and accounting, retail banking, wealth management and operations. In addition, he will support Kokomo, Carroll and Cass County commercial banking clients.
As a hospital executive, Alender managed more than 1,350 employees and oversaw the community-based hospital with more than $450 million in gross revenues. In 1998, his business experience helped him secure the financial turn-around for the hospital - from a $6 million loss to a profitable status in only 14 months. One of his major accomplishments was the merger between Community Health Network and the 50-year-old Howard Community Hospital - leading the way for healthcare reform in the market.

Since 1997, James P. Alender served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Howard Regional Health System. On July 1, 2012, Alender assumed the position of President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Howard Regional Health, Inc., a new corporation formed as a result of Howard Regional's affiliation with Community Health Network, Indianapolis.
Prior to his healthcare career, Alender served as District President of Key Bank, Kokomo; President and CEO of Ameritrust Bank NA, Central Indiana; and in several other executive positions in the banking industry.
A graduate of Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, and the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking and Commercial Finance, Alender served as adjunct faculty at Indiana University Kokomo and is an associate member of the American College of Health Care Executives from which he received the 2003 Northern Indiana Regents Award and was named the 2003 Hospital Administrator of the Year.
Alender currently serves as Chairman of the Indiana University Kokomo Advisory Board. He co-chaired the Indiana University Kokomo 2003-2004 Kresge Science Initiative, which raised more than one-half million dollars for a science equipment endowment. He is the 2006 recipient of the Indiana University Kokomo Distinguished Service Award and the 2008 recipient of the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs Public Affairs Service Award
A current director on the Board of Salin Bank & Trust Company NA, and board member/past chairman of VHA Central-Indiana representing 59 hospitals in Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky and Michigan, Alender is also a member of the Greater Kokomo Economic Development Alliance; the Kokomo Noon Rotary Club; the Kokomo Country Club; the Investment Committee of Community Foundation of Howard County; and the Council on Government Relations of Indiana Hospital & Health Association. He currently serves as the Chairman and CEO of the Board of Managers of the Community Howard Specialty Hospital, LLC; President of the Kokomo Sports Center LLC; and Vice President of Mandery Surgical, LLC.

James P. Alender Appointed Chairman of VHA Central Regional Hospital Board
Kokomo, IND. (January 19, 2007) - James P. Alender, president and chief executive officer of Howard Regional Health System, has been selected as chairman of the board of VHA Central, the regional arm of VHA Inc., the health care alliance that serves not-for-profit hospitals across the nation.
In this capacity, Alender will meet quarterly with the CEOs from approximately 59 VHA member hospitals in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan and Ohio to discuss how VHA can help address common clinical or operational challenges the hospitals face and how they can work together as VHA members to solve their own problems with VHA's assistance.
