Jala Anderson was the speaker at Alpha Kappa Alpha's Founder's Day 2010 luncheon.

A familiar face was in Toledo Sunday afternoon. Former 13abc anchor Jala Anderson was the speaker at Alpha Kappa Alpha's Founder's Day 2010 luncheon.
Alpha Kappa Alpha is the oldest Greek letter organization established by college educated African American women. Jala is also a member of the sorority.
Today they celebrated the legacy of sisterhood and service. Jala Anderson said, "It's been 9 years. This community has been so good to me, so when this organization asked me to come back and be their speaker for their Founders Day there was no way I could say no."
Jala is now a new mom. She's also coming out with a new book, and currently lives in the Chicago area.

Jala Anderson joined the 13 Action News team in August , 1998.She anchors the weekend 6 and 11pm newscasts as_well_as reporting for various newscasts during the week.
Prior_to joining 13 Action News , Jala was a fill-in anchor and general assignment reporter for WSAZ-TV in Charleston , West_Virginia.In 1996 , her work on the story Black Teens in Trouble received the prestigious Arthur F. Burns Fellowship.This allowed Jala to work for a German television station , producing reports for Eine Amerikanerin in Bayern ( An American in Bavaria ) , a German political magazine.Needless to say , Jala speaks German fluently.
Before joining WSAZ-TV , Jala worked for WOAY-TV on Oak_Hill , West_Virginia as a general assignment reporter.
At Northwestern University in Evanston , Illinois , Jala majored in Radio , Television and Film , and graduated in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Speech.She also took a concentration of classes in the top-ranked Medill School of Journalism at NU.
Since her recent arrival to Northwest Ohio , Jala has already immersed herself in the community.She is an active member of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Northwest Ohio marketing committee , and is a big sister for an 11 year old Toledo girl.Jala was recently elected president of the Northwest Ohio Black Media Association.She is a volunteer for the Wayman-Palmer YMCA , and sits on the board for the Adopt America Network , an organization which places children in adoptive families.Jala is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated and the National Association of Black Journalists.
Jala was raised in Waukegan , Illinois , a suburb of Chicago.In her free time , you can find her speaking to community groups and school children , or playing sports.She attends Friendship Baptist_Church in Toledo.
