Reel FX Director Jacques Panis, though, says those are important elements, but not the most important.
"There's that adventure and excitement element to the eco-awareness element of the property, but if anything we are a story-themed property," he
"And this story is really what we have worked very hard to develop, and it will come to life as we expand this property."
Panis came up with the concept of four dinosaurs escaping from the mass extinction and discovering a hidden island a year and a half ago and began raising capital.
Several investors were interested, he
said, but Reel FX
heard about the project and asked him to come on board and do it in house.
Now the company is developing its platform and has a team dedicated to hand drawing the art and producing new updates.
says that virtual worlds seem like a relatively safe industry in the recession as parents are looking for cheap ways to provide entertainment at home.
Even so, the kids market is becoming increasingly crowded.
"I think the brilliant thing that Club Penguin does, is that they give kids the tools to use their imagination," explains Panis
"If you go into the pizza shop, there's kids going around saying 'let me bring you a pizza.
Is it hot, cold, are you enjoying it?' Allowing these kids tools in these worlds the ability to use their imagination and really play in these worlds is really a very important element."
and Reel FX
are trying to create a world with a story surrounding the four dinosaur characters, but not one that forces boys to absorb every nuance.
Instead, and he
declined to dive into specifics about how Reel FX
is doing this, Panis wants Webosaurs to be a world where boys can be boys and follow their normal play habits.
says that there are lots of unique elements that will enable different ways of advancing the story and encouraging play as well as a backend designed by an industry-leading community manager to keep boys safe, but he
can't share much yet.
Even so, it's still the playing that he
says is important.
"From a visual and graphics standpoint, I'm very confident we're going to raise the bar.
From a technological standpoint, I don't think we have to raise the bar very high," he
