The City of Waukee announced today that Jake Speer has officially resigned as the Director of the Waukee Public Library effective July 29, 2014.
Speer's last day will be August 11, 2014.
Speer said he recently accepted a position as the Director of the Indiana State Library-an opportunity to work for his previous employer he could not pass up.

"My interest in being in Waukee long-term was sincere and the opportunity to be the head of a state agency I worked at for over five years was unexpected."
Speer started as the Director of the Waukee Public Library on October 28, 2013, after leaving an Executive Director position at the Hussie-Mayfield Memorial Public Library in Zionsville, Indiana.
Speer worked at Hussie-Mayfield for three years and worked for the Indiana State Library for five years prior to that.
