And after four years of waiting, Goodview Mayor Jack Weimerskirch said he's ready to give up.
"With the current climate and the way politics works, we don't have any hopes," Weimerskirch
The federal funds for the project were first authorized four years ago this month, but were never allocated.
And city officials, facing a federal mandate to reduce the amount of naturally occurring radium in its water - as well as threats of fines or even jail time for noncompliance - couldn't wait to build the $4.3 million plant.
"Had I known I would be retired by that time, jail might not have been a bad alternative," Weimerskirch
