The grant for the money is awaiting the signature of the secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, said Jack R. Slayton, who oversees the veterans cemetery program for Texas.He said the signature is a formality that will probably be secured in the next month."It's a done deal," Slayton said.

Jack Slayton, director of the Texas State Veterans Cemetery Program, plans to attend the March 6 event at which the students in Ronald Blevins' world history class will show their displays and PowerPoint presentations to the veterans' families.
Slayton will present Blevins with a certificate of recognition and a letter of thanks from Texas Land Commissioner Jerry Patterson at the ceremony, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Abilene Independent School District's downtown boardroom.
