McGaughey named DA for 97th Judicial DistrictBy Barbara Green/For the Times Record NewsSeptember 6, 2006Gov. Rick Perry Tuesday announced the appointment of Jack McGaughey of Nocona as district attorney of the 97th Judicial District serving Archer, Clay and Montague Counties. If approved, McGaughey will serve until the next general election. > McGaughey said he was notified Tuesday of the appointment and is honored to be selected. "I am gratified by the governor's confidence in me and will do everything within my power and ability to be worthy of the office with which I have been entrusted.I pledge to serve the State of Texas and the people of the 97th District justly and with humility," McGaughey said in a statement. McGaughey is no stranger to the DA's job, serving in the position from 198- 92.He is a member of the State Bar of Texas, former president of the Tri-County Bar Association, and a former board member for the Texas District and County Attorney's Association. McGaughey served as a member of the Nocona Library Board and is a board member and former director of the North Montague County Historical Society and Museum. He received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. Just one month from one of the biggest cases the 97th District has ever prosecuted, the Vickie Jackson murder trial, McGaughey said there is an enormous amount of work to be done in the office through the end of this term in December 2008. This job would be impossible without their dedicated assistance," McGaughey said in his statement.
