Horry County home sellers Jack Barnhill
and Karl Moser told The Sun News
this week that a $10,000 down payment shown on mortgage documents for Robert Romaniello Jr. was falsified.
...Barnhill, owner of Barnhill Realty, said he didn't authorize the false down payment but knew about it after the fact.
The two men, who have admitted the false down payment to state investigators, said they were only trying to help a home buyer who they now believe is trying to cheat them out of their property.
"We made two mistakes, dealing with a fellow who's not straight up and down and letting him move into the house," Barnhill

did not respond to Romaniello's counter-offer, which asked for a 30-year mortgage with a 6 percent fixed interest rate.

bought a year ago for $25,750 in a foreclosure auction.
"I'll spend that $40,000 before he
gets a dime," Barnhill
said the dispute with Romaniello has cost him more than $250,000 in lost commissions from three sales agents who quit in recent months because of bad publicity.
