J. Walter Raines age 78, of Wilmington, died on Friday, February 13, 2004, in the Wilmington Hospital, Wilmington, Delaware.
Mr. Raines was born on September 30, 1925 in Alcoa, Tennessee.He graduated from Porter HS in Walland, TN in 1941 and the University of Tennessee in 1945.He was a long time employee of the DuPont Company.He was a member of the American Instititute of Chemical Engineers, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association and Church of the Holy Child, where he was a Eucharistic Minister.He was a veteran of WWII in the Army Air Corps.
He is survived by his 3 sons, Eric of Incline Village, NV, Gregory of Knoxville, TN and Stephen and his wife Sylvia of Lewisburg, TN; 4 step-children, David and Gary Shimer both of Indianapolis, IN, Mary Margaret Shimer Baxter of Maryland and Bruce of PA; 1 brother, Gilbert of Naples, FL; 5 grandchildren, Gia, Heston, Keith, Abbey and Dolly; many step-grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren, Skyler Jade and Alexia Taylor; and many step-great-grandchildren.Mr. Raines was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Mae Robinson Raines of Maryville, TN and his second wife, Mary Margaret Raines.
