Liberty's former leader, Doctor J. Sherman Pelt, accepted a call on July 14, 1991. Dr. Pelt emphasizes spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in both conventional and innovative ways. As led by God, he brought forth the vision of building of the new church structure on its original site to accommodate the needs of a growing church and community.
We praise and thank God for the life, ministry & legacy of the late Rev. Dr. J. Sherman Pelt, our Senior Pastor for the past 22 years (July 1991 - October 2013). He lives on in the hearts of the countless men, women, boys & girls that he touched as a humble servant of the Most High God.
While struggling with cancer and his own need for a breakthrough, Dr. Pelt was inspired to write, Messages of Hope for a Breakthrough, a book of selected messages he had preached over the years. Two of those messages, "A Dinner Invitation from Four Homeless Men" and Cast Down Your Bucket Where You Are" have been published. In addition, he was in the process of competing his autobiography, The Journey of a Lifetime.
