After reviewing several applicants and interviewing some of the prospects that Rev. Waymon Pritchard of the Raleigh Rescue Mission submitted, it became apparent that J. C. Jones
was the strongest prospect.

served, for the previous five years, as Pastor of Quankie Baptist Church
near Roanoke Rapids.Rev. Jones
wanted the job and came to direct the Mission with high recommendations by local ministers.This was the beginning of a long, happy, and productive association between the Mission and Rev. J. C. Jones, a modest, dedicated, and much-loved man.
Rev. James Watson Hired as Assistant Director of Union Mission
...Rev. Jones served the Lord and lived with his family in the Union Mission for many years after becoming Director.In 1989, he began efforts to hire an assistant as he had served for 14 years as Director by himself.
...On June 1, 1989, Rev. Jones officially retired as Director of the Mission, and the Rev. James Watson took his place.Rev. Jones
was 66 years old when he
retired, and he
had served the mission well for 14 years.
At the time of this writing-January 7, 2001-at the age of 78, Rev. J. C. Jones is pastoring at the South Rosemary Baptist Church just north of the Mission
, and he
church support the work of the Mission's ministries.
