Medical Director - Dr. Irvin Smith
Dr. Irvin Smith serves as Medical Director for Mercy Regional EMS.
Dr. Smith is a board certified Anesthesiologist with 30 years of clinical experience.
special interests are cardiac anesthesia and trauma.
Dr. Smith began his association with EMS in 1985 as Medical Director for Angel of Mercy EMS.
Since l985 he has been an active member of the Lone Oak Fire Department.
Through Mercy Regional, Dr. Smith provides medical direction for Purchase Area Haz-Mat I, State Fire Rescue Training, Paducah Police Tactical Emergency Medical Support for EOD and ERT teams, and serves as a special deputy with the McCracken County Sheriff's Department.
Still an active field ALS provider, Dr. Smith makes calls both as a provider and an on-scene Medical Director In 2004 Dr. Smith was appointed by then Governor Paul Patton as one of the original physician members of the Kentucky Board of EMS.
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), customer service, continuing education for medical crews, and ongoing protocol development are some of Dr. Smith's
primary focuses at MREMS
Dr. Smith lead the development and implementation of the LMA Pilot Project in 2004, the Airway Management Protocol document for KBEMS in 2006, and the MREMS RSI project in 2007.

In addition, Dr. Smith is Medical Director for the PHI Air Medical Group with bases in Paducah and Central City, Ky.
Dr. Smith is a life long member of the American Medical Association and the Kentucky Medical Association and an active member of the National Association of EMS Physicians and the Air Medical Physician Association.
is a deacon of the Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
is married for 33 years to his
two daughters, Kristy and Kelly both live in Paducah.
currently has one grandson, Gavin, with new twin grandchildren expected in early 2009.
