In 2005 Dr. Irene Taafaki Director of the University of the South Pacific, Majuro, and Maria Kabua Fowler Traditional Leader, with the facilitation of Mary Lou Foley Bishop Museum Association, saw early mats in the Museum's collection.
With the assistance of Dr. Taafaki and Maria Fowlder, weaving workshops were held resulting in an April 2007 Exhiition/Auction where tracks of crabs, abstracted images of frigate and long tail birds, the under belly of turtles and islands waiving in the sea , once again lived on the borders of finely woven pandanus clothing mats.
