Iren Arutyunyan was born in 1988 in Armenia.
began studying classical guitar at the age of seven under the instruction of her
father, Garik Arutyunyan.
was 13, Arutyunyan has garnered many awards, including first prize at the Aron Green/ASTA Classical Guitar Competition.
was the grand prize winner in the statewide junior category of the American String Teachers Association
received first prize and an award for most outstanding performance from the Armenian Allied Arts.
In 2006 Iren
participated in the Parkening International Guitar competition and was selected a finalist in the junior category.
has participated in master classes with David Russell, Tilman Hoppstock, Angel Romero, Pepe Romero, Paul Galbraith, Christopher Parkening, and Benjamin Verdery.
In addition, Iren
has received scholarships from the following: the Friends of Vartan Music Scholarship at USC, Young Musicians Foundation, Leni Fe Bland Music Foundation, and the American Guitar Society
For three years, she
took private lessons with Brian Head.
Iren received two associate degrees in music and liberal arts from Los Angeles City College prior to receiving her high school diploma at age 16.
In 2009, she
graduated with a Bachelors of Music degree from the University of Southern California under the direction of virtuoso Scott Tennat.
Upon graduation she was rewarded Dean's Honors and Best Ensemble Performer in Classical Guitar.
She is currently continuing her studies at USC in the pursuit of a Masters in Music degree under the direction of her pervious instructor Brian Head.
