Rebecca Wood & Ira Gourvitz
Rebecca "Pepper" Wood and Ira Gourvitz purchased the winery in the mid 1990s and replanted the vineyards. Once residing in Mission Hills, Pepper and Ira recently built a home on a hill above the vineyards and enjoy entertaining family and friends to gourmet dinners and Bocce tournaments in their backyard. Ted, along with his father Ira and Director of Sales, Paul Fournier, has made Fallbrook Winery one of the more recognizable brands from the developing South Coast region. Brix retired from her greeter roll in order to spend her golden years sleeping on Ira and Pepper's comfortable array of couches. Despite her large size (north of 105 lbs.) you would be hard-pressed to find a more friendly, good natured dog who just loved people. Brix passed away recently, but we're sure she's on the other side of the rainbow bridge enjoying red wine, avocados, brie cheese, and ear scratches.

Many San Diego vintners buy grapes from other parts of California to make their wines. Â Many years ago, when Fallbrook Winery's vines were maturing, they made wine from Sonoma and other regions. Â Today they are focusing on estate fruit. Â Ira Gourvitz, owner of Fallbrook Winery has been a leader in promoting San Diego wines. Â He runs one of the more successful wineries in San Diego. Â You can find his wines on restaurant wine lists and in specialty wine shops. Â Being that the San Diego wine market is very finicky, this is a true testament to the quality of his wine.
Prado team When deciding what to do for the Centennial wine round two, I looked for help from the management team at the Prado Restaurant.  I headed up to the winery to meet Ira and winemaker, Vernon Kindred and brought the Prado managers Cynthia Peterson, Mark Robertson, Tyler Chupp, Patty Urtado, Kaylla McAdams and Amanda Boies to make a wine that would be worthy of Centennial stature.  After hours of  tasting barrel samples from the 2012 vintage, we came upon the perfect blend.  We decided to make a Bordeaux style blend made of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.  The wine turned out great!
