Dr. Iqbal Hossain, At-Large National Board Representative & Governance Committee Chair - Iqbal is the President of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake, the largest and oldest Muslim organization in the State of Utah. A veteran of community and civic activism, Iqbal has worked with various entities in the state and served on the boards of a number of organizations such as the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, Iqra Academy, and the Utah Peace Institute. He is an incumbent member on the ACLU of Utah Board. He is also currently serving as a director on the National Board of ACLU. A Criminologist by profession, Iqbal teaches criminal justice related classes at the University of Utah. He has devoted his personal life in fostering awareness of civil liberties, and promoting education, respect, and nurturance of diversity in our community. Iqbal joined the board in 2007 and was elected to the national ACLU Board of Directors in 2011.

On Friday, Iqbal Hossain, a member of the Islamic Society's board, stood before more than 300 Muslims who had gathered at the Khadeeja Islamic Center mosque for afternoon prayers and read a statement on behalf of the society.Hossain said the imam has been "absent from the mosque and his home" since Jan. 13. But the imam, whom the board did reach by phone, never showed up for the meeting, Hossain said. "To this date," the board "remains unaware of his whereabouts," Hossain said. Din's relative, who asked not to be identified out of safety concerns, said he left town because the board had forced him to. The relative said the abrupt departure - one that left the imam "in shock" - was driven by something more than his marital issues.

Iqbal Hossain is a management consultant for the Utah Department of Corrections and an adjunct professor of criminology at the University of Utah. A long-time community activist, Iqbal has served on various boards in Utah. He is the past-president of the Islamic Society of Greater Salt Lake and is currently a board member with that organization. Originally from Bangladesh, Iqbal has lived in Utah since 1981. He lives in Draper with his wife of twenty-five years and their two children.
