Ingram Barge Company announced its participation in the new Barge Freight component of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a public-private partnership between the U.S. Government's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the country's leading private industry freight carriers and freight users aimed at reducing carbon, oxides of nitrogen and particulate matter emissions. Ingram has been involved with the EPA in helping to develop, test and pilot the tool since 2010 and Ingram hopes that others will follow its lead in committing to improve efficiency and reduce pollution.
Ingram has focused on fuel efficiency improvements for over a decade, and Ingram's membership in the EPA's SmartWay Transport Partnership since February 4, 2010, demonstrates to customers and communities alike, a commitment of increased fuel efficiency and emission reductions.

Ingram is proud to have joined forces with MRCT and the other project partners to demonstrate new ways to further reduce the pollution associated with river transportation, which is already the most environmentally friendly mode of bulk freight transportation
Ingram participated in the program by retrofitting six towboats in its industry-leading inland marine fleet with a unique DOC and closed crank case emission control system.
"Ingram is proud to have joined forces with MRCT and the other project partners to demonstrate new ways to further reduce the pollution associated with river transportation, which is already the most environmentally friendly mode of bulk freight transportation," said David Sehrt, Ingram Barge's Chief Operating Officer.
In February, Ingram was named as one of the first marine transportation companies to be accepted as a partner in the EPA's SmartWay Program. Launched in 2004, the EPA program identifies products and services that reduce transportation-related emissions.
Ingram Barge Company is the leading carrier on America's inland waterways. Ingram operates a fleet of more than 100 line haul towboats and over 4,000 barges to transport coal, aggregates, grain, fertilizer, ores, alloys, steel products and chemicals. Ingram Materials operates a sand and gravel dredging and distribution enterprise serving Tennessee markets. Custom Fuel Services operates 11 floating fueling stations on the Mississippi and Ohio River Systems and provides marine fuels, lubricants, and other miscellaneous services to towboats, barges, stevedoring rigs, and ships. In addition, Ingram owns a ship anchorage in Louisiana and several bulk commodities terminals.
