Ineke Aardema
Physical Therapist Ineke has worked as a physiotherapist since obtaining her diploma from the Physiotherapy Akadamie in Amsterdam in 1971. Ineke is a certified NDT therapist in baby, paediatric and adult treatment as well as being certified in sensory motor integration and has taken numerous post graduation courses over her working career. She worked in adult and paediatric rehab in the Netherlands for 5 years before making her way to Canada where she continued to work in pediatric physiotherapy for 20 years. Her first job in Canada was as the Glenrose in Edmonton and then in the Greater Vancouver area in the North Shore Paediatric Community Physiotherapy Program, Sunnyhill Health Center for Children and the Centre for Ability both in Early Intervention, as a consultant for several Infant Development Programs and with the Community Brain Injury Program for Children and Youth. Ineke joined Access Community Therapists in 1995 and is the Access 'go-to person' for assessing gait and orthpaedic management in persons with Cerebral Palsy, for specially designed exercise programs for people with complex movement disorders, and for physical respiratory management. She also has a large high complexity seating caseload, and provides seating outreach support to the Peace region and the Southern Okanagan. Ineke has a special interest in aging with a developmental disability and has presented on this topic at various venues. She enjoys the advocacy role for her clients with developmental disabilities along with their families and caregivers helping them realize and maintain their optimal health and wellbeing through physical activities and management.
