Hugh H. Johnston, M.D., Chairman and Medical Director, was the founder and Director of the Division of Endocrinology at Maine Medical Center, Portland, Maine, from 1969 to 1987.He was founding partner of Ventrex Laboratories, Inc., serving as its Medical Director and on the Board of Directors from 1976 to 1982.Dr. Johnston was an early participant in the formation of Immunosystems, Inc., and Immucell, Inc., and served as a director for the latter.He has worked as a consultant to Corning Biomedical Products, Technicon, Sandoz, Alza, Boots Pharmaceuticals, Lederle Laboratories and Beckman Instruments.Dr. Johnston served on the Board of Directors for the Center for Innovation in Biomedical Technology from 1993-1997, and was the Vice Chair of that board from 1997-1998.Dr. Johnston has been a member of the Biomedical Association of Maine since 1995.Dr. Johnston also operates Morgan Hill Farm in New Gloucester, Maine, which houses more than 40 competitive horse-athletes.His work with horse-athletes and other animals has provided ample opportunity to observe the problems associated with the delivery of animal pharmaceutical products.Education: Millsaps College, Jackson, MS, B.S.
