ABC TV News reported that Hugh Daly, owner of video and film company JHD Productions, is taking a stand to speak out against identity theft and consumer fraud that used JHD's name to steal small sums, usually less than one dollar, from debit and credit cards of people across America.
On WABC-TV News Channel 7 in New York City, journalist Nina Pineda reported about Daly and JHD Productions, saying, "It is his business identity the criminals stole to defraud victims' credit cards, a practice that costs U.S. consumers more than $ 50 billion a year."
...
In her ABC news report, online at http://www.tinyurl.com/y2cjghc, Pineda reported attempted to open a $ 25,000 credit line in the name of Daly's JHD Productions, but the savvy filmmaker caught it in time and cancelled the card.
...
Daly said, "The scam charges people's credit or debit cards less than one dollar, such as 40 or 50 cents, to test vulnerability, assuming people will be too busy to track down a minor charge. If you don't get stop the small charge then the next one might wipe out your account."
People have 60 days to notify their bank about inappropriate charges on their credit or debit cards to remove the charges, said Daly.
...
Brian Dobson of Dobson PR.com, said, "We've worked with JHD for two decades for our marketing-video needs, so we helped Hugh Daly since media focus can generate government agency response."
...
Daly said, "Local police in Suffolk County, Long Island, have been very helpful and focusing on the problem and we are hopeful the scam artists will be caught."

But it is stealing my good name, which took me thirty years to establish," said Hugh C. Daly, founder of the filmmaking and corporate video company, JHD Productions.
JHD Productions, online at www.jhdproductionsltd.com, is a full service video and film company with a state-of-the-art studio in Deer Park, New York. In conjunction with Dobson Communications at DobsonPR.com, JHD also services the business community with marketing, training and product videos.
Daly said, "My phone lines have been flooded with hundreds of calls from people protesting the charges. I explain that JHD Productions is also a victim of the fraud. The scam artists are attempting to ruin the reputation of my video and film company. JHD Productions makes corporate videos and independent films and JHD does not work with the public. JHD never charges by credit card, and always bill clients by invoice."
Daly explained, "The scam artists opened a credit card, with a $ 25,000 limit, in the name of JHD Productions, but fortunately I cancelled it. The credit card company refused to give any details of how or who set up an account."
A Director of Photography, Daly added, "This scam tried to steal money from JHD Productions and is now damaging to JHD's reputation."
An unknown Internet entity had taken the name of JHD Productions and used it to set up an Internet scam to send massive numbers of bills to people in almost every State in the nation. The victims of this fraud are finding small charges, typically the size not worth the time and effort to challenge, on their bank accounts from either their Debit or Credit Card," explained Daly.
...
Hugh Daly turned to various government agencies for help, but it was slow in coming, so as communicators Daly and I decided to go public to warn people.
...
"Something has to be done about this fraud and abuse of American citizens and JHD Productions calls on the State District Attorneys, such as in my home state of New York, along with Federal officials to look into this fraud that is attacking a business and consumers," Daly said.

NBC TV News spotlighted Hugh Daly of JHD Productions, a producer of marketing and industrial videos, JHD Productions, for helping consumers by speaking out against what NBC called a "fifty cents credit scam."
Investigative reporter Tom Llamas, of WNBC-TV News Channel 4 in New York, said Daly was the victim of identity theft and his company, JHD, was being used to steal small amounts that might go unnoticed and then later process a larger charge.
...
Daly, founder of JHD Productions, maker of marketing and promotional videos and independent motion pictures, said JHD was the target of identity fraud that used JHD's name to bill small amounts on people's credit and debit cards.
...
Daly said, "They say they're looking into it, but the longer they wait, the more people are going to be scammed.
...
Daly said, "They even opened a credit line of $ 25,000 in the name of JHD Productions but I promptly closed it. The credit card company would not tell me who opened the account or where the funds would be sent in the scam. It seems criminals get more protection than victims in this situation."
Daly said people have 60 days to notify a bank about questionable charges on credit or debit cards to get them removed.
