Both Dr. Ditchek and Howard Kafka, a businessman, volunteer paramedic, and resident of Lawrence, point to their colleague, Ari Adlerstein, a law student from Brooklyn, as the prime moving force behind this undertaking.
"He's very modest," says Mr. Kafka
of Mr. Adlerstein, who at age 25 is the junior member among the organizers.
Every detail of the trip has been gone over meticulously by Dr. Ditchek, Mr. Kafka
, and Mr. Adlerstein.
Howard Kafka has more than 10 years of experience as a paramedic and is widely known in the Five Towns for the never-ending chesed that he does.
He is skilled in advanced life-saving techniques and respiratory equipment for oxygen-dependent children, and he is currently on the medical board of Hatzolah, where he coordinates the continuing medical education for paramedics.
Ari Adlerstein, the law student, supplies much of the human energy for the project and is the one who sold the idea, it seems, to both Dr. Ditchek and Mr. Kafka.
