Hong Viet Dung
Hong Viet Dung Works Hong Viet Dung was born in Hanoi in 1962 and graduated from the Hanoi Fine Art College in 1984. Dung is an original member of the Gang of Five, an artistic collective which greatly influenced contemporary Vietnamese art. Dung(tm)s distinctive visions of Vietnamese landscapes and figures encapsulate Eastern pictorial principles. As a Buddhist, he has devoted his career to create still and meditative compositions, articulated by natural forms. Uncluttered by detail and complimented by muted colours, Dung(tm)s compositions present a pause for reflection in the fast pace of globalisation. A retrospective of his work is featured in the collection of the Vietnam National Museum of Fine Arts. Hong Viet Dung has a broad international collector base and has exhibited widely, including solo exhibitions in Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, the USA and UAE.

Peaceful Moment: Works by Hong Viet Dung
Peaceful Moment: Works by Hong Viet Dung Peaceful Moment, at the London Apricot Gallery, features works by Hong Viet Dung, an artist already known through previous exhibitions and collections. Hong Viet Dung creates poetical landscapes of extraordinary texture and depth where the artist often leaves colour to the viewer's imagination, choosing instead a monochromatic palette and surfaces achieved with great skill. The effect is enchanting. Hong Viet Dung was born in 1962 in Hanoi in the midst of yjr war, just two years later he was evacuated to the countryside to escape the American bombing. Dung is an original member of the Gang of Five, an artistic collective united by a desire to create a new and distinctly Vietnamese art. Yet by his use of colour and form, Dung provides in his landscape paintings a direct link with elemental ideas of identity that have powerful resonance within a very specific context.
