research, practice, training, consultation, and publications have focused on investigating alleged abuse, interviewing skills, casework intervention and supervision, mental health and mental capacity, self-neglect, domestic violence and sexual assault in later life, quality of care and victimization in facilities, and professional self-care.
Her research projects include a study of elder sexual abuse in families and the study of sexual assault in health care facilities funded by the National Institute on Aging.
has authored over 70 journal articles, book chapters, and training manuals.
These include the Sexual Violence in Later Life Information Packet, the Hawaii APS Investigating Suspected Abuse Clinical Training Manual, and the Nevada Elder Protective Services Supervisors' Clinical Manual.
She is a trainer and consultant for the Massachusetts Elder Protective Services Program and directs the MA Elder Sexual Abuse Consultation Project.
She is also a frequent conference speaker, is a National Sexual Violence Resource Center Advisory Council Member, was invited to the ground-breaking 2010 White House Roundtable on Sexual Violence, has provided elder abuse testimony for the US Senate, and has served as a member of the NCPEA Board of Directors since 1999.
