Tax Evasion Case On July 1, 2003, Japanese prosecutors arrested Hirotoshi Honda over a massive tax evasion case. The arrest came hours after prosecutors launched a criminal investigation into Mugen, which has business relations with Honda Motor Company, on suspicion of dodging 600 million yen (five million dollars) in corporate taxes.Norio Hirokawa, 60, the company's auditor, was also arrested over his alleged involvement in the tax evasion.Prosecutors suspect Mugen hid its income by moving funds to a company named MG Estate under machine lease and other fictitious transactions for three years through to December 2000, Kyodo News Agency said.Hirotoshi Honda is a board member of MG Estate, which has since been renamed GE Seirijigyosha.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (本ç"°æŠ€ç "å·¥æ¥æ ªå¼ä¼šç¤¾, Honda Giken KÅgyÅ Kabushiki-gaisha?, Honda Technology Research Institute, Co., Ltd.) (TYO: 7267 , NYSE: HMC), or simply called Honda is a Japanese manufacturer of automobiles, trucks, motorcycles, scooters, robots, jet engines, jets and more recently they have ventured into the world of Mountain Bikes, motorcycle-trailer-accessories producing the very first Bike to use an internall gear changing system in the Honda RN-01 G-cross.However, as the name of the company in Japanese suggests, the company is often described as an engineering or engine company rather than a car company.Honda makes ATVs, water craft, electrical generators, marine engines, lawn and garden equipment, and aeronautical and other mobile technologies.Honda's high-end line of cars are branded Acura in North America. With more than 14 million internal combustion engines built each year, Honda is the largest engine-maker in the world. In 2004, the company began to produce diesel motors, which were both very quiet whilst not requiring particulate filters to pass pollution standards. It is arguable, however, that the foundation of Honda's success is the motorcycle division.Honda is headquartered in Tokyo.

Things are complicated by the fact that Mugen is owned and run by Hirotoshi Honda - the son of Honda founder Soichiro Honda - who has been the major shareholder in Honda since his father's death.

...
The company has a strong racing heritage as Hirotoshi Honda began building his own racing car in a workshop at his house, shortly before he graduated from Nihon University in 1965.Kimura is a veteran of more than 50 race victories in Honda sportscars and single-seaters and worked for Honda R&D and then Honda Racing Service before he helped Hirotoshi establish Mugen.
The company specialized in tuning Honda engines, beginning with the 1200cc Honda Civic engine but has since developed and can now design and build both two-stroke and four-stroke engines and manufacture many of the major components.
Working with Honda, Mugen has gradually expanded its sporting involvement to all levels of the sport. In 1986 Formula 3000 was introduced into Japan and Mugen joined forces with Honda to build a Formula 3000 engine.
...
I agree 100% with Pat that Mugen is not as independent from Honda as RUF is from Porsches. ,and it's Mugen that's modifying Hondas, not vice-versa, so if RUF is 'doing wrong', Mugen is 'doing wrong' and not Honda,
What I meant by my first post was that RUF does not manufacture cars by itself, but buys them.On the other hand, Honda manufactures cars in its own factories. Now everyone remains fascinated at the way RUF tunes cars, but if Honda were to stop manufacturing cars and starts buying cars of other brands 'just' to tune them, all anti-japs in this forum would jump on us lawyers claiming that Honda lost all credibility due to such decision..
