Dr. Charles M. Herzfeld was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Dr. Charles Herzfeld, Senior Fellow and member of the Board of Regents, Potomac Institute for Policy Studies Aside from his work at the Potomac Institute, Dr. Herzfeld consults for a number of government, commercial, and non-profit organizations. Focusing on business problems associated with the effective use of technology in their markets, his clients include Los Alamos National Laboratory, Arete, Inc. of Sherman Oaks, Digital Systems International, Sandia National Laboratory, Northrop Grumman Corporation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), National Intelligence Council, and Applied Minds Corporation. Dr. Herzfeld formerly served as the Senior Consultant to the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in the Executive Office of the President, helping to formulate recommendations to the President regarding national security, defense technology, and counter-proliferation measures. From 1990-1991, he served as the Director of the Defense Research and Engineering of the Department of Defense, directing the Department of Defense programs in Research, Development, Testing and Evaluations and supervised DARPA. He has served in many other important positions in both the private and public sector, as well as having served on many committees including the President's Information Advisory Council (PITAC) National Security Panel, the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Physical Society, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Chicago in 1951.
